Stewardship for Generations was established in June of 2025 and recognized as a 501c3 charitable organization in August of the same year.
Our story began almost two decades ago from the experience of two gentlemen with developmental disabilities who we worked with while providing supported living services through another agency. At the time they were also receiving job coaching support and worked at the Dimeo Lane Recycling Center, sorting materials that could be recycled and repurposed from those that were headed for the landfill.
They said that they felt proud of the work they were doing helping to reclaim recyclable material, saving it from going into the landfill or into the ocean. It is/was meaningful work on many levels that benefitted them with personally meaningful work (more than just a task or job) and income. It supports our local community, ecosystem and planet in reclaiming valuable resources and keeping those resources out of the landfill, fresh water sources and our ocean.
Stewardship for generations grew out of their experience of having meaningful work, being included in the workforce as a person with a developmental disability who is often excluded in this and other aspects of society, doing something that directly benefits their local community and having a beneficial impact on the environment we all share. This is the heart and sould of our mission.
Our mission is twofold:
1. To promote the stewardship of the earth by providing programs that promote the reduction of plastic waste through a platform of education, advocacy, community building, job/income creation and retail operations..
2. To support persons with disabilities and/or special needs and their families by providing meaningful job and financial opportunities.
